Bike and Roll hires friendly, enthusiastic, outgoing people who want to work with bikes in a fun, fast-paced, outdoor environment. Our goal is to ensure that renting from us or taking one of our tours is the best experience our guests have in Washington.   • Our 2017 season begins mid-March and ends in early December
  • Seasonal employment (spring, summer and fall) is available
  • Some weekend and holiday hours will be required
  • Day and evening hours are available
  • We’ll train you on basic bicycle maintenance (if necessary in your position)

Tour Guides-Bike & Segway *Currently HIRING*

Please note: we will begin hiring for summer tour guides on or about 4/20. Applications will not be reviewed before then, but you are welcome to apply now!

Do you want to share your passion and knowledge of Washington D.C. with others? Do you enjoy an active job that allows you to spend your time outside? If so, working as a Tour Guide may be just for you!

Tour guides are part teachers/entertainer and part shepherds/traffic cop. Guides are thoroughly trained on history and technique and bring their own sense of entertainment, charm and humor to the job.

Qualified candidates will posses and be able to demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Comfortable speaking in front of small groups
  • Passionate about both D.C. and American History
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Comfortable riding a bike while leading a small group
  • The ability to learn how to ride a Segway
  • A safety first mentality at all times
  • An ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Additional Qualities that are favorable include:

  • Previous experience in a related field such as customer service, hospitality or tourism.
  • Basic First-Aid training
  • An education in History or Museum Studies

The company! Bike and Roll DC and Smithsonian National Mall Tours provides our clientele with informative, fun and engaging experiences in DC. We offer tours of the National Mall area (by bike and Segway) and highlight the interesting history surrounding sites such at each of the iconic memorials, the U.S. Capitol, Pennsylvania Avenue, The White House, the Smithsonian Museums and more.

Experience! Prior Experience as a tour guide is NOT required. However, knowledge of Washington D.C. and/or American history is a big advantage. Candidates who are personable and interested in learning will be the most successful tour guides.

Customer Service Staff *Currently HIRING*

Our customer service team manages bicycle rentals, and assists with all type of tours. Associates are friendly, well-spoken and enjoy working with the public. The ideal candidates will be responsible, outgoing and enjoy a casual and professional work environment and will not mind giving directions to the bathroom multiple times in a day!

We are looking part-time staffers through December; all customer service staffers are expected to cover one weekend shift per week. Some evening-only shifts are available.

-Pay is hourly ($10.50-$13.50), and based on experience and training,
-Great job for students seeking part-time employment
-Some familiarity with the downtown DC area is helpful although not required, and knowledge of bicycling in the region is also a plus

Bike Mechanic *Currently HIRING*

We are currently searching for experienced bicycle mechanics to help maintain our fleet of more than 500 Trek bicycles at both our National Mall and Union Station shops. Both full-time and part-time positions are available for wrenches with proven ability to build, repair and tune.

Our team of mechanics works closely with our Fleet Manager to provide support for our rental and tour teams. Keep your hands greasy tuning and truing, while providing some transport services, field repair and watching for trends on the equipment.

Our National Mall location is the home of our largest fleet of bicycles and highest volume of tours and rentals. Our Union Station shop is a full-service repair shop offering a complete range of maintenance to BikeStation members and the Capitol Hill community -in addition to tours and rentals. At each location, your role is essential to providing a great experience for our customers to see DC in the best way possible- by bike!

Office Administrator/Reservations Specialist *Currently HIRING*

If the following attributes apply to you, you are a good candidate for this position and will be considered for the job!

– Experience in a high-demand, busy work environment with frequently incoming calls
– Always courteous to customers
– Motivated to work as a team member and independently
– Able to take direction, as well as think on your feet
– Familiar with the greater Washington DC area top sight-seeing spots
– Conscientious about documentation
– Able to identify useful information and ensure knowledge is passed to appropriate people

Main area of responsibilities:
– Prioritize incoming calls and emails
– Answer telephone and respond to email inquiries
– Record and manage incoming reservations
– Monitor online reservation system for payments, trend analysis, and other required data
– Assist at tour center with preparation, as necessary
– Coordinate special requests and company-wide events with managers at branch locations
– Oversee an assistant

Prior administrative experience is not required, however, the following skills are REQUIRED:
– Ability to speak English clearly and concisely in person and over the telephone
– Excellent interpersonal skills
– Ability to write clearly and concisely using proper English grammar
– Ability to use standard computer software quickly and efficiently (Familiarity with gmail is a plus)
– Organized and able to balance multiple tasks and demands

Full-time, (40 hours, 5-days per week) including WEEKEND hours (either Saturdays or Sundays) through November.

We are now hiring for location and shift managers. We’re seeking enthusiastic candidates, with at least 1-2 years of managerial experience, to fill open management positions.  

General Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting Tour Manager and Operations Manager with overseeing day to day operations
  • Training staff in proper tour/safety procedures and monitoring performance
  • Scheduling guides for public and private tours
  • Assisting in managing reservations
  • Responding to customer inquiries and resolving issues
  • Monitoring and adjusting tour ticket inventory
  • Leading tours

Preferred experience includes:

  • Capability to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to seamlessly switch tasks
  • Experience leading or guiding tours and/or managing individuals
  • Proficiency in standard computer software with the ability to use online management tools or scheduling software

Driver *NOT Currently Hiring*

Seeking an enthusiastic individual to coordinate and expedite our bicycle delivery program. Please read description and application instructions carefully. If the following attributes apply to you, you are a good candidate for this position and will be considered for the job!

  • Good driver, with a clean record

Preferred Skills Include:

  • Familiarity with bicycles
  • Ability to perform minor adjustments on bicycles (preferred but not required)
