3 Can’t-Miss Events for the Really Big Bike Weekend

We’re only a few days away from the year’s biggest celebration of all things #BIKEDC!  With the addition of the first-ever DC Bike Ride expected to surpass expectations , WABA has given the weekend of May 20-22 an official name–THE REALLY BIG BIKE WEEKEND!  Here’s some helpful info about the major events taking place:

1.) BIKE TO WORK DAY–Friday, May 20th

As convenient as the D.C. Metro system is, the views on your way to work are probably less than ideal. But that all changes when you trade in the metro card for a bike lock. Take in all the sights and sounds of D.C. by biking to work. Not only can you get to work in a more economical way (as opposed to a car), but you can also get in a good workout! Improve your health and the environment, all while seeing a beautiful city!

2.) TOUR DE FAT–Saturday, May 21st

One of D.C.’s biggest, free cycling festivals features is back for another year. Not only can cyclists go on a bike tour of D.C., there is a fashion show, live music, New Belgium beer (a sponsor of the event) and a chance to win a 2016 bike, sponsored by the beer company. Its tagline is “Beer, Bikes and Bemusement,” and there are plenty of all three. For more information, visit: http://www.newbelgium.com/Events/tour-de-fat/Washington

3.) THE FIRST EVER DC BIKE RIDE–Sunday, May 22nd

Celebrate one of the most bike friendly cities in America by riding a 17-mile trek throughout D.C. and Virginia. Starting near the Capital building, coast past the monuments and weave in and out of Old Town Alexandria before winding your way back to where you started. And as you cross the finish line, you’ll be greeted by the music of DJ Questlove, of the Jimmy Fallon fame,  and White Ford Bronco, one of D.C.’s best 90’s-cover band. And if music isn’t quite your forte, a plethora of area food trucks will help satisfy any craving.
