Turkey Trots
There are many turkey trots in the DMV area one can participate in (or watch from the sidelines!). But perhaps the most famous is the Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hungersponsored by SOME. This 5k fun run begins at Freedom Plaza in DC and helps to raise money to feed the city’s homeless.

Presidential Turkey Pardon
Who doesn’t love a good turkey pardon? A White House tradition, this formal pardoning spares one (or two!) lucky gobblers from ending up on the Thanskgiving dinner menu. After being pampered and pardoned, the turkeys were sent to live out the remainder of their days at Morven Park in Leesburg, VA in 2013.

Thanksgiving Dinner at a DC Restaurant
Why spend all day slaving over a hot stove when you can simply pop into one of DC’s fantastic restaurants to be served a fancy Thanksgiving dinner? A great alternative to the traditional at-home meal, many restaurants pull out all the stops for their Thanksgiving menus- just take a peek at what Art and Soul, 1789, Old Ebbitt Grill, and Blue Duck Tavern are offering.

Small Business Saturday
After the chaos that is Black Friday, take to your local merchants the Saturday after Thanksgiving to celebrate small businesses! Stop by Georgetown to see their “Main Street Makeover” or check out the long list of participating businesses and neighborhoods here.

Tour the Capital with Bike and Roll
Get the kids out of the house and onto some bikes! Kick off the holiday season right with a bicycle tour of Washington. Bike and Roll will be open Friday-Sunday Thanksgiving weekend, and we still have a few spots available on our Monuments bike tours!
